Major job responsibilities will include:
- Administering and interpreting diagnostic tests to help identify students with dyslexic tendencies
- Providing therapy to identified students
- Instructing and evaluating students receiving reading interventions
- Assisting teachers in utilizing effective reading practices within the classroom setting
- Assisting in the coordination of Section 504 referral process for dyslexic students
- Developing or modifying curricula and preparing lessons and other instructional materials to students’ ability levels
- Provide professional development and coaching to campus personnel on reading issues
The Dyslexia Therapist will be expected to participate in various professional development trainings to improve his/her job-related skills. He/she should keep informed of and comply with any and all federal, state, district, and school regulations and policies for 504 and special education students and teachers. He/she will compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required by a student’s Individual Reading Plan and any other required paperwork. This therapist should be able to work in a fluid environment, be able to establish and maintain open lines of communication by conducting conferences with parents, principals, and teachers, and be prepared to perform other duties.
